Nanuet Union Free School District

• Creates and monitors Individualized Education Programs (IEP's) for school-age pupils  - The Committee on Special Education (CSE)
• Performs similar functions for preschoolers from ages three through five - The Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)
• Assists with pre-referral interventions through district Response to Intervention (RTI) practices
• Helps to develop and oversee 504 Accommodation Plans

Our Mission

The Nanuet Union Free School District Office of Student Support Services is committed to supporting our students in reaching their potential.  The Office of Student Support Services department (or Office of Special Education) offers a comprehensive continuum of services for pre-school and school age students with disabilities.  There is a strong focus on equity and access through specialized instruction and the provision of multiple layers of support in the least restrictive environment.  Our staff works closely with families to build the partnerships needed to support student progress and success.

Nanuet Special Education Providers

• School psychologists and social workers provide social, emotional and behavioral supports to Nanuet students. They also help families to locate and attain the resources they need both in school as well as in the community.
• Special Education teachers (consultant/resource room/special class) provide both direct and indirect services to ensure that students are provided with the correct teaching methods, accommodations and assistive technology required to fully participate in all educational experiences.

Related Service Providers

• Speech and language therapists address communication deficits that may impact students’ confidence, social interactions and participation in classroom activities.
• Occupational and physical therapists provide services that address fine and gross motor skills in order to support access to curriculum and school activities.
• BOCES Providers are specialized staff contracted through BOCES that are available to work with students with visual and hearing impairments.
